What is commute tracking?
Decarbon’s commute tracking feature helps you track and understand the carbon emissions associated with your commute into the office.
This is a carbon tracking method that should be used in addition to Carbon Budgeting because there’s aspects of commuting that happen outside your purchases (i.e., if you walk or bike to work).
Track
tab, then click Commute
. The most important aspect to commute tracking is to try to reduce the number of trips you’re taking in a gas-powered car by yourself.
Commute tracking can also be linked to specific Teams, so that you and your coworkers can track emissions from commuting across your entire workplace. This is essential for organizations that need to track their employee-related carbon emissions (Scope 3) to comply with environmental regulations.
Your commute schedule
Set your typical commute schedule within your Commute Settings. This involves specifying how you get to work for each day of the week.
Every day, Decarbon automatically creates a new commute in your Commute Tracker based on this schedule.
You can edit your commute schedule as you make adjustments to your commute to lower your emissions.
Commute modifiers
Similar to the purchase modifiers you can set in Your profile, you can also specify commute modifiers in your Commute Settings to make your commute information more accurate.
The different commute modifiers are:
- Team — set the team you want to track commuting with (the team lead needs to enable Commute Tracking in the team settings)
- Miles from home to work
- Fuel efficiency (MPG) of the car your drive to work in
- Fuel efficiency (MPG) of the car you carpool in
- Number of people in your carpool
Decarbon incorporates these commute modifiers into the automatic daily commute logging. You can then edit this for individual commutes or update these modifiers on a “from now on” basis in your Commute Settings.
