Act on climate!
In Decarbon, we call anything that helps in this effort a “climate action”. Pretty simple!
Now, climate actions will often directly lower your personal carbon footprint; so the more you participate, the more you’ll see your footprint shrink in your carbon budget.
That said, climate action involves so much more than just lowering your personal footprint!
Some of the climate actions suggested by Decarbon might not directly tie to your own footprint, but are nevertheless just as if not more important for the bigger mission of curbing climate change. For example, writing a letter to our government representatives won’t lower our footprints immediately but is a great way to demand bigger change, particularly if we join forces.
Decarbon provides two ways for you to take action and reduce your emissions:
- Monthly collabs
- Personal actions
Monthly collabs
We believe that informed group action is the most impactful way to act on climate — and it’s way more fun. That’s what our monthly collabs facilitate!
Collab = collaboration 😊
Past collabs:
- Jan 2023: Introducing Zack, Decarbon’s New Co-Founder
- Oct 2022: Mindful Home Sustainability with CarbonCure’s Acacia Erhardt
- Sep 2022: Letters to Congress with Solar Scientist Dr. Rachel Woods-Robinson
How collabs work
Decarbon’s monthly collabs bring everyone in the app together to work towards the same climate action goal.
These collabs are hosted by a different leader in the climate movement each month. They could be scientists, teachers, activists, entrepreneurs, non-profit leaders… anyone who’s doing something about climate change! 🙌
Personal actions
Outside of our monthly collabs, it’s helpful to periodically reflect on different:
- Climate actions to live more sustainably (lowering your personal footprint)
- Climate actions to engage your community in living more sustainably (pushing for systemic change)
Decarbon’s compiled a list of dozens of tips for how to take personal action on climate change.
These include both recommendations for how to lower your personal footprint and also how to engage your community. They also range from super simple (”Walk more!”) to more complicated (”Promote bike safety!”).
For each tip in the Climate Actions tab, you can:
- Like it ❤️ - Other Decarbon users will see the total likes for each tip, so you can sort the tips by what we collectively like best.
- Complete it ✅ - Some tips are more general, some are more specific. Mark them complete whenever you feel like you’ve integrated the tip into your routine in the way that works best for you.
- Snooze it 💤 - Not ready to tackle a specific tip? You can snooze it until you are!
- Hide it 🙅 - You can hide any tip that isn’t for you.
- Share feedback 💬 - We’d love your feedback on any ways to improve tips. Maybe a potential organization we can partner with, maybe we need to fix a typo.
Everyone is also welcome to suggest new climate actions to us!
Celebrate taking action
We collaborated with climate activist and artist Nicole Kelner to create 5 different animations that celebrate you completing climate actions.
Sponsored tips
Tips where the action link has a 💼 briefcase icon next to it are ones where Decarbon has partnered with an organization to provide the info. The action typically involves shopping with the partner as a lower carbon footprint alternative to common everyday purchases like clothes, electronics, and food.
If you complete a purchase on the partner’s website (for example, you buy clothes on thredUP), Decarbon might earn a small commission for referring you to their business.
Thank you for supporting us! Please share your feedback as we aim to present climate actions in an authentic and helpful way.
